What Is the Best Selling Cod Game of All Time

Call of Duty is arguably one of the most famous first-person shooter franchises out there, with sixteen distinct iterations published by Activision.

The franchise began as a World War II game. However, it evolved into a more modern shooter with futuristic environments, weaponry, and sophisticated technologies.

As of writing, the Call of Duty series has expanded to include card games, action figurines, and comic books based on the games.

With over 300 million copies sold and Guinness World Records recognizing them as the best-selling first-person shooter franchise, now is an excellent moment to look at their five biggest hits.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is considered to be the best-selling game in the franchise. It’s also one of the best-selling of all time, with 30.72 million units sold.

The game is the sequel to Call of Duty: World at War, taking place during the Cold War in numerous locations between 1961 and 1968.

Many well-known performers, including Ice Cube, Gary Oldman, Ed Harris, and Andrew Picardo even voiced some of the game’s characters.

The game also gained a mobile and smartphone edition with a new plot and characters.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was undoubtedly a tremendous financial success, selling 6.5 million copies in the first 24 hours and totaling 30.71 million units as of 2020.

It was developed collaboratively by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games. Memes surrounding the game have proven unstoppable, just as sales have not.

The narrative begins immediately after the last mission of the previous installment and is once again centered on Task Force 141.

The team searches for recurring villain Vladimir Makarov with the assistance of Delta Force and Special Air Service. Just like its predecessor, the game is broken into three different Acts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Call of Duty: Black Ops II, released in 2012 by Activision and developed by Treyarch, is set in the late 1980s, with the player controlling Alex Mason and Frank Woods.

The game’s narrative centers around the antagonist Raul Menendez, who abducted Woods and planned against the US and China to spark the second Cold War.

The game’s gameplay is nonlinear and includes numerous endings.

It mainly garnered good reviews from reviewers and became the third best-selling Call of Duty video game, selling 29.59 million units.

It increased the stakes and fueled discussion about which is superior: Black Ops or Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Call of Duty: Ghost succeeded better monetarily than critically, selling 28.98 million copies worldwide.

This game has Logan Walker as the new protagonist. There are also numerous other characters available. One particular inclusion is a non-human playable character for the first time by the name of Riley, a German Shepherd.

The game takes place in the near future after the Middle East has been devastated by nuclear war.

South American oil-producing countries merged to establish the Federation of Americas, which grew into a worldwide superpower, invading and conquering Central America and launching a war with the United States.

While less critically successful than previous editions, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 performed pretty well economically. In fact, it managed to become the fifth best-selling Call of Duty game with 26.72 million in sales.

The game takes place 40 years after the last game’s events in a world endangered by climate change and challenged by new technology.

The third Cold War is now underway between two worldwide alliances: the Winslow Accord and the Common Defense Pact.

The game follows a squad of black operations troops who work for Winslow Accord, similar to the previous Black Ops games.
