The Guide Book is a very handy tool at the start of Sons of the Forest. Officially titled “Improvised Survival Structures Handbook”, this small book allows you to learn a lot of the basic starter recipes required for crafting in the early game.

How to Get the Guide Book

You can obtain the Guide Book as soon as you start the game. As soon as you appear on the beach when starting the game, open your inventory by pressing the “I” key.

Follow the on-screen instructions and right click on the Emergency Pack.

Now, click on the gear as the game indicates. This will open the Emergency Pack which contains the Tactical Axe, a GPS Tracker, a lighter, and the Guide Book.

After you check the various items you got, find the Guide Book in your inventory and left click to equip it.

You should now have the “Improvised Survival Structures Handbook” in your hand. This helpful little book shows you how to craft a variety of basic recipes, such as tents and fires.

With your trusty book in hand, all that’s left is to explore the island. Gather materials, craft the recipes in the Guide Book, and survive as you complete your objectives.
