How to Fish in Gloria Victis Fishing Guide

Fishing is a big component of the game. After all, it allows you to collect resources that can be used or sold to merchants and other players.

Not only that, but fish is also a prime ingredient for cooking, herbalism, and oil making.

You can fish actively or passively, though you will require a rod, bait, and an ideal place to fish. You also need to unlock fishing rods through the Character Development skill tree.

That said, if you want to go fishing in Gloria Victis, this guide will help you out.

Fisheries and Condition

You can catch fish in any water that is deep enough to swim in. These are called “fisheries” which are areas of water that are divided into squares a few meters across.

Fisheries are ranked into four categories based on their quality which are as follows:

  • Rich
  • Average
  • Poor
  • Exploited

The higher the quality, the faster you will catch a fish. Higher quality will also increase the chances of catching rarer fish.

However, as fish are caught in a fishery, the condition will decrease. You will be able to see the condition of the fishery when you drop your line into the water.

Fishing Rods

You can create fishing rods via the Engineering profession. It is categorized into four tiers:

  • Novice’s Fishing Rod
  • Journeyman’s Fishing Rod
  • Craftsman’s Fishing Rod
  • Master’s Fishing Rod

Fishing rods that are higher tier have an increased chance of getting a bite faster.

To gain access to fishing rods, you must first improve your Fishing skill in Character Development.

Baits and Lures

There are five different types of bait in the game, and using the right bait increases the chance of catching a specific fish. They’re as follows:

  • Breadballs (Tier 1) – Specializes in catching Carp. Disassemble bread to create.
  • Cyperus (Tier 2) – Specializes in catching Herring and Carp. Grown as a crop.
  • Grubs (Tier 3) – Specializes in catching Zander. Found in crops or the dig pit.
  • Beetles (Tier 4) – Specializes in catching Salmon. Found in crops.
  • Worms (Tier 5) – Specializes in catching Cod. Found in crops.

As for the lures, you can purchase them for 800 Contribution points at the Glory vendor or for 150 Ambers in the Supporter Shop.

Lures increase the speed at which you catch fish and decrease the rate of exploitation of the fishery by half.

However, keep in mind that the lure will show up on the map as an icon that any nearby player can see. Players who are looking for PvP might come find you!
