How Do Power Levels Work in Destiny 2 Lightfall – Explained

Destiny 2 has finally released the new Lightfall DLC expansion which also comes with it an expected increase in Power Level limits.

Players are expected to reach the new Power Level caps to tackle some of the new content.

Whether you’re a new player or a Destiny 2 veteran, you might a bit confused as to how power level works in the expansion. Worry not, as we’ll do our best to explain it here!

New Power Levels in Destiny 2 Lightfall Explained

The first thing to note about Power Levels in Lightfall is that the baseline got increased. Now, every player starts at a base Power Level of 1600.

The new Power Level soft cap is now 1750 as well while the hard cap is 1800 which can still be pushed further to 1810 with Pinnacle gear.

You can reach the soft cap of 1750 pretty easily. All you need to do is to collect as much gear as you can. Every single piece of gear will increase your Power Level until you hit 1750.

Once you hit the 1750 soft cap, you need to start gathering Powerful Gear instead which will allow you to get to Power Level 1800.

Once you hit Power Level 1800, you will then need to gather Pinnacle Gear to be able to reach Power Level 1810.

How to Increase your Power Level in Destiny 2 Lightfall

One quick way to get Power Levels early is to go through the campaign on Legend. This will also reward you with 20 Power Levels at the end.

When it comes to Powerful and Pinnacle gear, you just need to look within your Destinations tab inside the Director menu.

In the Destinations tab, look for destinations with a small yellow icon next to them. This lets you know where you can get rewards to increase your Power Level.

For example, the image above shows Dares of Eternity with a yellow icon to the side. The mission details also let us know that we will receive Powerful Gear for completing challenges.

Lastly, you can also gain a Bonus Power Level by leveling up the Seasonal Artifact. You can do this by gaining experience to progress in the Season Pass.
