Fire Emblem Engage has a brand new cast of characters and some new battle mechanics to shake up the old formula.

The Fire Emblem series is known for its rock, paper, scissors mechanic that has certain weapons have an advantage over other weapons.

However, Engage adds a new addition to the triangle. The new body arts have an advantage over daggers, bows, and tomes.

The break mechanic allows characters with heavy weapons to knock an enemy back one space.

However, if there is an enemy or a wall in the space they are knocked into, they’ll receive additional damage instead.

Reclassing & Weapon Proficiency

There are two level classes in the game: Base and Advanced. Both of them have a level cap of 20. You can upgrade a Base character into the Advanced from level 10 with a Master Seal.

There is also a weapon proficiency mechanic which is tied to the level classes and can only be accessed if you have the associated ring.

Fire Emblem has designated class types that determine the movement attributes of a particular unit. This drastically overhauls the movement mechanics seen in past games.
