The Tonberry summon is one of the many unlockable summonses in the game. It’s also a recurring character in the franchise. Adding this summons to your DMW can greatly aid you in battle.

How to Unlock the Tonberry Summon

Defeat the Tonberry found in Mission  6-1-5: buried in the caverns to unlock  mission 10-2-1

The first step to unlocking the Tonberry summon involves exploring the cavern and defeating the monsters along the way. Usually, worms populate the cavern so you could either defeat them for some XP and Gil or you could simply escape the battle.

After exploring the cavern and defeating monsters, you will eventually reach Tonberry. Defeating it will earn you a reward of 500 Gil and 1 XP.

Do not forget to actually do the objective of the mission so you can unlock the next series of missions.

Complete Missions  10-2-1 to 10-2-3

The next step to unlocking the Tonberry summon is to complete missions 10-2-1 to 10-2-3. Since the missions are similar to the past ones, it will be fairly easy for you to complete these. As long as you navigate through the cavern until you meet the Master Tonberry.

A good tip in defeating the Master Tonberry is to avoid being too close to it, as its kitchen knife can deal a great amount of damage. It is also noteworthy that it has the ability to go invisible.

Once you defeat the Master Tonberry, you will be given a reward of 1,000 Gil, 1 SP, a MAG Mako Stone, and the Tonberry’s Knife. The Tonberry will then be added as a new summon on your DMW.
