At the end of the “In Hot Pursuit” quest in Atomic Heart, you will be tasked with activating the PEC-4 Birchtree.

To do this, you’ll need to find a couple of power sources and bring them to the area where the PEC-4 Birchtree is. It’s somewhat easier said than done, however.

In this guide, we’ll tell you exactly how to complete this objective!

How to Activate the PEC-4 Birchtree in Atomic Heart

Near the end of the “In Hot Pursuit” quest, you’ll finally close the distance with Petrov and your next objective is to “Catch up with Petrov”.

Follow the objective marker until you find Petrov. Or what’s left of him, anyway!

Next to Petrov’s corpse will be a glowing orange sphere. Pick it up with your Telekinesis and carry it back to the PEC-4 Birchtree. Turn around from Petrov’s body and follow the objective marker while carrying the Candle. Go through the fence door to reach a large warehouse.

You have to reach the stairs at the other end of the warehouse while carrying the Candle. There are some rampaging loader bots in the area as well. Take care of them while you’re at it.

Be careful and avoid the loader bots in this area since they can knock you down which will cause you to drop the candle.

If you do get hit by a loader bot, pick the Candle back up with your Telekinesis and keep making your way up to the stairs.

When you reach the stairs, go up the stairs and then through a door. You should be in an office of sorts. Take the exit marked by your objective marker to reach a dark room.

The PEC-4 Birchtree is in this large dark room. You’ll also notice there are two new objective markers. Approach one of them with the Candle and plug it into the slot.

After you plug in the Candle, turn around and go back up the stairs you just came from. There’s another Candle next to the door you came through. Pick it up with your Telekinesis.

Plug the second Candle into the second slot to complete the “In Hot Pursuit” quest. However, that’s not quite enough for the PEC-4 Birchtree.

After that, you’ll now need to go to 4 different Workshops in the area and get their canisters.
